The Wairarapa is a short drive from Wellington. Drive yourself or take a tour bus, many connect to the region via a train journey from Wellington through the Remutuka hill rail tunnel. Whether you’re coming from the north or south, you can taste the wines and explore the vines with ease.
TRAIN
Jump on a WRL train at Wellington Central Station and enter Wairarapa through the Remutaka Hill.
Martinborough
Take the train to Featherston Station. Get on the 200 or 205 bus to Martinborough’s centre.
Greytown
Take the train to Woodside Station. Jump on the 204 bus to Greytown.
Masterton
Take the train straight to Masterton Station.
CAR
The best way to explore the region is with your own car. Hire a car in Wellington, or any other location and customise your journey through the Wairarapa Wine region from vineyard to vineyard or coast to plate.
BIKE
The most enjoyable way to explore the wineries is by bike! Bring your own or hire from the below bike shops, if you’re staying, check with your accommodation as they often have bikes available at no or a small cost.
